PPC: Landing Pages

A landing page is a page on your site that is set up specifically to receive traffic from paid results. It should closely reflect the content of the advert on which the visotor has clicked. By clicking on an ad, the user has indicated an interest in a specific product or service, and the landing page should address that interest specifically. Highly relevant landing pages are more likely to result in conversions than sending traffic to generic pages such as your home page.

Landing pages compliment and reinforce paid results such as Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture). The purpose of having one is to provide a page that is related to the search terms you are sending traffic to, from the paid results. This is more effective than sending visitors directly to the home page of your site and it has the benefit of increasing the ROI on your paid results campaigns.

This is one of the most important parts of the whole PPC campaign because it can drive conversions and clients if properly designed. When visitors see what they expect after clicking on the ad, it's only a small step for them to perform an action, such as buying a product, downloading a brochure or filling in a contact form.
